ENTRY 2 - PORTFOLIO - ORAL DEVELOPMENT
SanaMente - LibreMente
This is my summary and reflection on SanaMente - LibreMente, a course focused on mental health, self-care, and addiction prevention in educational settings. In this course I learned that students do not learn well if they do not feel well. Then, as a future teacher, I need to support both academic development and emotional well-being. Canva Presentation
This course provides knowledge, tools, and self-care strategies to promote mental health, addiction prevention, and healthy environments. The central idea is that mental health creates a culture of peace. So, when students feel emotionally supported, they can learn, participate, and build healthy relationships.
We also made a video presentation about this topic:
I learned that many students experience stress, anxiety, and academic pressure every day. Self-care includes physical, emotional, and social dimensions such as rest, healthy routines, and emotional awareness. Addiction prevention requires building resilience, emotional regulation, communication, critical thinking, and self-knowledge. I also learned that teachers must create respectful and stigma-free environments where mental health can be discussed openly.
Before this course, I thought academic learning was the only priority. Now I feel more aware and responsible. I feel motivated to care about my students' emotions, not just their grades. I also feel more empathetic because I now understand that many students struggle silently with stress or anxiety.
The most difficult part was recognizing that teachers often face challenges such as limited institutional support and cultural resistance when talking about mental health. It is hard to know how to react to emotional reactions from students. I also found it difficult to think about addiction prevention because it is a sensitive topic, but the course showed me how to talk about it carefully and strengthen trust with my students.
How this helps me as a future teacher
This course changed my perspective completely. As a future teacher, I will not only transmit knowledge. I will also support my students' well-being and personal growth promoting empathy, critical thinking, and healthy environments. By doing this, I can help build safer and more peaceful communities inside and outside the classroom. SanaMente - LibreMente taught me that mental health is fundamental for success and personal development. My responsibility as a teacher is to care for the whole student: mind, emotions, and future.
I really liked your reflection because it shows how this course changed your perspective about teaching and mental health. I think it is very important that you now understand that teachers should care about students’ emotions and well-being, not only their academic performance.
